AboutPurpose and method

Concerned, not careless.

Dear Burning Man is an evidence-first environmental accountability project focused on the Black Rock Desert, neighboring tribal lands, Northern Nevada communities, and the full event lifecycle.

Our position

The project begins from the position that Burning Man’s environmental and regional impacts deserve scrutiny. Fairness comes from methodology, not artificial neutrality.

We have historically been critical of Burning Man. We will still publish evidence that contradicts a criticism, recognize meaningful improvements, and correct errors.

Our standard

  • Prioritize primary evidence.
  • Distinguish fact, allegation, observation, estimate, and opinion.
  • Represent relevant responses accurately.
  • Acknowledge uncertainty.
  • Never attack participants as a class.

The point is not to win an argument. It is to make environmental consequences harder to ignore—and easier to improve.
